Transformers: Movie in Disguise
Jun. 23rd, 2008 06:20 pmI got to work around 11ish this morning because I had a doctor's appointment, and there are all these signs directing "crew" and catering to park here or there, which is hardly unusual cause there's also signs telling the summer camp people where to park. I assume "crew" refers to like the whole rowing team thing and don't think much of it. Then, while making my usual trek from parking garage to library, I hit the area where they're catering and again, not that big a deal, although I am vaguely curious what the big event is what with all the students and alumni and their frightening tiger attire being long gone. So then there's a rented truck (they use Budget trucks in case you were wondering), and it's got this sign on the door all "Operated by Paramount Pictures". It is at this point that I start to get an inkling of what's going on (a hint: "crew" does not refer to rowing sports), and as I approach the library there are signs that essentially disclaim, "If you're going to be an obnoxious onlooker and make our movie shoot more difficult we reserve the right to film you, and use your ugly mug in a DVD extra or something, and you can't sue us or expect to be paid for that so, ha!"
Once I get inside, I learn that they are filming Transformers 2 and that Shia LaBeouf (who Laryssa hilariously referred to as "the little guy from Indiana Jones") and the female lead (somebody Fox I think, but don't much care) are there.
All I really saw as I passed by was the backs of the heads of people staring, and inside we mostly saw extras out the window practicing walking casually over and over again. There were also a couple cars cause they closed that part of Washington Road, and at lunch I heard lots of bullhorn stuff including a quite clear, "Aaaaand Action!" followed by car engine and scary brake noises. None of them looked like they were actually going to transform into a big honkin' robot though, so I didn't really bother being a stalky onlooker.
I am a bit curious as to why they seem to very specifically want it to be Princeton University because otherwise why bother coming to Jersey when you can make your own University of Whatever The Hell in California or Canada or something?
Ah well, there was a bit of excitement, and we got to joke about being in the movie and being stepped on by giant robots.
I decided that if faced with an actual giant robot, my first reaction would be Dude! That is so cool! followed by Crap. Run away! Run away!
