I just watched 30 Days of Night, and I am still reeling.
It could be the emotional shock talking, but I think it was the best horror movie I have ever seen.
I mean, it was just, so gripping, so emotional. People crying and reacting and feeling the terror; the deaths of their friends and family.
It was not fun or campy.
It was real.
It was well-acted.
It was a damn good movie.
Damn.
My thoughts have congealed a little:
It wasn't a make you flinch when the bad guys jump out movie, but it wasn't intended to be. There was gore everywhere, but there's always gore everywhere. The intensity was accomplished by sheer emotional impact. It's like it was meant for people like me, who have seen waaaay too many horror movies and are immune to all the usual "scary" things, so they put the usual things in there, but made them mean something?
Tomorrow I'm gonna read this and be like, "What the hell was I on?" and I don't even do drugs. This movie has put me in an altered state of mind. I am not used to this. Good night.
