The Geosciences and Map Library moved to the basement of Fine Hall the summer I worked there. This morning, that basement flooded. Tons of books got totally soaked and mud-covered and as a Preservation staff member I got to help try and salvage them. Yay? It was like a bucket chain to put out a fire except we were handing gross wet books down the line and this is so why Sawyer finding Watership Down in the ocean is a complete and total crock because even though they're sending them off to be freeze-dried, they are never going to be the same again. And it made me wet and tired. Fortunately, the Map Room was OK. And I got to see Bertha again and her Work-Study student was really cute and he stayed to help even when his shift was over and this is why I need to stick to fantasies about Dean, cuz this stuff never works out for me in real life.
