Having now actually seen Dark Angel, I have to say I rather liked it. The concept is pretty awesome. Granted, parts of the execution could use some work, and Jessica Alba could use some acting lessons, but the supporting cast helps with that, and did I mention the awesome concept?

I liked the concept of the show and FOX royally screwed it. They just kept promoting it like it was Buffy. That Max and Buffy were "tiny girls that kick ass" seemed to them to make the shows alike. But they were completely different setups. So the ads wouldn't have done anything for you. Your scifi fangirl correctly does not want to see James Cameron's Buffy.

So instead you missed the love child of Frankenstien and Ripley.

If you are watching from DVDs be sure to hit the commentary. Also google "Dark Angel novels" and the books will pop up. That will fill in most of the Season 3 info.

(Also shameless pimp: http://gigglingkat.livejournal.com/14661.html I wrote a plot primer if you're really bored. But it's plot and not much meta so it's kinda boring.)

No DVDs sadly (I'm far too cheap). They're showing the series on SciFi (and depriving me of old school SG-1 eps in the process) Monday nights from 7-11 which is going to be cool in terms of seeing it in chunks, I think. I'm skipping the plot primer for now because I don't want to be spoiled, but I'll probably come back to it later.
