Today, I numbered a 1,106 page book
Dec. 7th, 2007 05:09 pmAfterwards, my head hurt so much that my vision was going in and out of focus. So, I took some Tylenol, and waited for it to have some time to kick in (and hopefully make driving home somewhat less dangerous), and went home early.
Why, you may ask, was I numbering the pages of a book, let alone one that was 1,106 pages?
Because my job hates me? No, because the company that we send books to for preservation photocopy charges extra if the pages aren't numbered and they have to write it in. So basically, it's cheaper for the library to have me write them in. Even though the pages were all technically numbered in Arabic, and we've sent them plenty of books numbered in Arabic (all of which I had to number in the European-adopted version of Arabic numerals), and I'm sure they get them from other customers, so wouldn't it be easier just to teach their employees Arabic numbers? So that, should the pages get out of order, they can be put back in order without anyone ever having to number a 1,106 page book by hand?
This is why companies called "ACME" should stick to cannons and jet packs.
